Ayurveda is a system of traditional medicine native to the Indian subcontinent. The oldest known Ayurvedic texts are the Sushrutha Samhita and the Charaka Samhita. These Classical Ayurvedic texts are written in sanskrit language. So, it is quite essential for a person from Ayurveda field to have a command over Sanskrit Language.

Prof Gaur attained his primary and secondary education in Sanskrit and did Bhishagacharya from the sanskrit medium. Later being a lecturer in Ayurveda College he did MA in sanskrit from Rajasthan University in 1977 and secured first division. Meanwhile, he regularly taught all the subjects of basic principles which require good sanskrit knowledge as all the samhitas and commentaries are in sanskrit.

Prof. BanwariLal Gaur has written   31 Books  and almost each of them has their basics derived from Sanskrit Language.

Prof. Gaur has not just benefited Ayurveda but also contributed for Sanskrit. The below mentioned books are exclusively written by him which embarked his contribution in Sanskrit literature.

  • Samvartika Commentary on Sutrasthan of AstangHridaya(AstangHridaya is a book of the 6th Century in Sanskrit. The Sutra Sthan of this book is translated and a Commentary written by him in Hindi).
  • AYURVEDEEYA SHABDAAVABODH (It is a sanskrit literature book which contains
Description and Derivation of Ayurvedic words, padasiddhi, chhandovarnan and examples of samas which has been used in Charaksamhita and Shushrutasamhita and Astanghridaya

  • Prof BanwariLal Gaur had occupied various academic positions. He started his career as Physician and climbed the ladders of academics - Demonstrator to Lecturer and Professor and to the position of  Director and finally to the highest academic seat of  Vice-Chancellor and always taught basic principles of ayurveda.

A major Project work was assigned to him by the Minstry of AYUSH of  Govt. of India  for translation of “CharakSamhita with Ayurveda Dipika Commentry” from Sanskrit into Hindi.   Prof. Gaur was its Chief Investigator and Translator.  It contains more than 4294 pages.
